The smartest and most capable F-150 ever is now also the safest. This morning, Ford announced that two of its F-150 configurations, SuperCab and SuperCrew, earned Top Safety Pick ratings, the highest designation possible from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. F-150 is now the only full-size pickup to be named a Top Safety Pick.
According to the press release, a cross-functional team of Ford truck experts spent thousands of hours to improve the F-150's durability, fuel economy, and safety. Using smart engineering, and high-strength, lightweight materials, the F-150 was able to shed 700 pounds. This enabled best-in-class ratings for towing, payload, and fuel-economy, while giving it the strength to pass all five IIHS crashworthiness assessments.
“From the moment our team set out to design and build the new F-150, we knew it had to be best-in-class,” said Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, Global Product Development, and chief technical officer. “This Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick is another example of Ford’s commitment to building the toughest, smartest, most capable and safest F-150 ever.”
